The inspiration for Enchanted Sorcerer Child, Merlin was an art show I participated in.
When the theme "Arthurian Legends" was selected for this show, I submerged myself in all things "Arthur", reading and learning much more than I previously did about this most cherished of legends! But of all the characters and enchanted personalities this legend brings us, I felt most connected to Merlin; Merlin the orphan child!
Merlin's magical prowess was recognized quite early in his life and while he did not use his magic for evil purposes, his "different-ness" made him an outcast in the village where he lived. He escaped the taunts and stares by making the forests his home, and forest animals his friends. He is said to have tamed a wild stag that he rode through the glades, and played an enchanted flute that charmed the deer and rabbits to his side. I found myself equally bewitched by such a charming lad, and had to paint him!
